Aglaonema im Detail
ORIGIN
Aglaonema Cutlass, also known as "Lance Aglaonema", is a plant native to the tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, especially in countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. These plants typically grow in shady, moist forest areas and along river banks.
CARE
Light:
Aglaonema Cutlass plants prefer bright, indirect light, but can thrive in lower light levels. Direct sunlight should be avoided as it can burn the leaves. They are adaptable and do well indoors with changing light conditions.
Temperature and humidity:
Aglaonema Cutlass loves warm temperatures between 18°C and 27°C and thrives in high humidity. However, they are also adaptable to average indoor humidity. In very dry air, occasional misting of the leaves can be beneficial.
Irrigation:
The soil should be kept evenly moist, but waterlogging must be avoided. It is advisable to allow the top layer of soil to dry slightly between waterings. Watering should be reduced during the winter months.
Floor:
A well-drained, loose potting substrate is ideal. A mixture of potting soil with perlite or sand ensures good drainage and aeration of the roots.
Fertilization:
During the growing season in spring and summer, a balanced liquid fertilizer can be applied every four to six weeks. Fertilization is less necessary in autumn and winter.
GROWTH TYPE
Aglaonema Cutlass plants are evergreen perennials with a bushy growth habit. They have long, narrow, lanceolate leaves that are characterized by their silvery-green color with dark green edges and veins. The leaves are attractive and give the plant an elegant appearance. Aglaonema Cutlass usually reaches a height of about 30 to 60 cm, depending on the species and growing conditions.
MORE INFORMATION
Repotting: Repot every one to two years to give the plant fresh soil and encourage root growth. Spring is the best time for repotting.
Propagation: Aglaonema Cutlass can be propagated by division or cuttings. Divide the plant carefully and place the individual parts in fresh soil.
Pest control: Aglaonema Cutlass can be susceptible to pests such as spider mites, aphids and mealybugs. Regular inspection and, if necessary, treatment with a suitable insecticide or natural remedies such as neem oil is recommended.
Toxicity: Aglaonema Cutlass can be toxic to pets and humans if parts of the plant are ingested. It is advisable to keep it out of the reach of children and pets.
Aglaonema Cutlass plants are a popular choice for houseplant lovers due to their adaptable nature and attractive foliage. With proper care, they can remain healthy and ornamental for many years.
